Frisco's Old Mint commemorated (The Star Ledger)

WHEN SAN FRANCISCO was devastated by the great earthquake of 1906 and subsequent fires, one of the few buildings left standing was the Old U.S. Mint, called the Granite Lady, which became a rallying point for the rebuilding of the city.

The U.S. Mint is observing the 100th anniversary of the event with gold and silver Old San Francisco Mint commemorative coins that now can be ordered for shipment in December. Prices go up after Oct. 17 if any remain.
