What is the Value of Collectible Coins on TV?

Q: I recently saw a TV ad for a $50 gold piece the com­pany was trying to sell for $9.95 as something they called a "tribute proof." They said it was overlaid in real gold. With the price of gold being where it is, is this a good deal?
